FAQs on getting a Malaysia eVisa or an eNTRI Visa:

Q. How is a Malaysia eVisa different from a Malaysia eNTRI visa?

A. While both the visas are provided electronically, there is a major difference between the two categories of visa. The Malaysia eVisa is a multiple-entry visa granted for the purpose of both business or tourism. This visa comes with a validity of 90 days from the date of issue and lets you stay in the country for up to 30 days. The cost of procuring this visa is slightly higher than an eNTRI visa. The Malaysia eNTRI visa on the other hand is a single-entry visa, cannot be extended, and is provided only for tourism purposes. While the validity of the visa is 3 months from the date of issue, you cannot stay in the country for longer than 15 days. The approvals for these visas too come in faster than the eVisa.

Q. Does Malaysia have a visa on arrival facility for Indian citizens?

A. No, Indian citizens travelling to Malaysia need to procure their visas beforehand and are only then allowed to land in Malaysia. You might either want to get yourself an eVisa or a eNTRI visa, but without either you cannot set foot in the country. However, in certain cases it is possible to get a Malaysia visa on arrival. For instance, if an Indian traveller is visiting Malaysia from a third country of the likes of Indonesia, Thailand or Singapore, and possess a valid visa for either of these countries, then you can get a visa on arrival in Malaysia that lets you stay in the country for up to 7 days. You can procure this visa on arrival from either the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, or the airports in Kota Kinabalu, Penang and Johor Bahru. To get this visa, you need to display your confirmed return air tickets and proof of funds which is $1000 at the immigration. The fee for visa on arrival is 407 Malaysian Ringgit, and needs to be paid only in local currency.

Q. What are documents required for getting a Malaysia eVisa and an eNTRI visa?

A. The documents you need to submit in order to get either an eNTRI visa or a eVisa are the same. You need to first zero in on an OTA and select the visa category and submit scanned copies of the front and back covers of your passport, confirmed return air tickets, a recent coloured passport-size photograph as per the specification of the immigration department, proof of accommodation whether hotel or home stay booking accounting for all days of stay in Malaysia, and a cover letter in case you are going to stay with a family, and in case of an eVisa, a cover letter if your purpose of travel is business, and you are being hosted by an organisation locally in Malaysia.

Q. What is the processing time for a Malaysia eVisa and an eNTRI visa?

A. After submitting all the documents online and paying the visa fee, your OTA will then go through your documents for their authenticity and fill up the visa application form on your behalf and send the same to the Malaysian high commission. If you get this done by Trip Alive, you can expect your eVisa letter to come in within 48 to 72 hours, provided there are no weekends or public holidays in between.
